are your rugs really vintage?
yes! our vintage rugs are one of a kind and hand-selected by us. most have already lived a whole beautiful life before finding their way to apple & oak, which is exactly what makes them so special.
where are your vintage rugs from?
our vintage rugs are sourced from turkey and were traditionally handwoven by skilled artisans. each one is unique in its pattern, color, age and character. we have worked with the same family in turkey for 10 years and all of our rugs are sourced through them. they are all vintage.
why should i choose a vintage rug?
because they’re beautiful, sustainable and made to last. vintage rugs were woven long before fast furniture was a thing, using natural fibers and traditional techniques. instead of buying something mass produced that may need to be replaced in a few years, you’re bringing home a piece that has already stood the test of time.
are vintage rugs good for high traffic areas?
yes! this is one of our favorite things about them. vintage rugs have already spent decades being lived on. they’re meant for real homes, real families, kids, pets, dinner parties and everyday messes.
are vintage rugs pet friendly?
very. we have pets too, so this matters to us. allison has 4 dogs and will only have vintage rugs in her home. the low pile and natural fibers of vintage turkish rugs make them a great choice for homes with dogs and cats. they’re also much easier to clean than you might think.
how do i clean my vintage rug?
for everyday care, vacuum your rug regularly using suction only and skip the beater bar. spills happen, so blot them quickly with a clean, absorbent cloth rather than rubbing. you can sweep them. we recommend taking rugs out once out twice a year for a good hose down. let them dry completely before bringing back in. for spills or accidents with odor, we mix water and white vinegar then blot blot blot.
for a deeper clean, we recommend using a professional rug cleaner experienced with vintage or handmade rugs.
do i need a rug pad?
we actually don't! but if you want one, go for it!
will my rug look exactly like the photos?
as much as humanly possible. the rug you see is the rug you get. unlike mass produced rugs, every apple & oak vintage rug is one of a kind.
we photograph our rugs to represent their colors and details as accurately as possible, but colors can look slightly different depending on lighting and your screen.
why does my rug have fading, wear or little imperfections?
because she’s vintage, baby.
variations in color, fading, worn areas, repairs and other signs of age are normal and part of what makes each rug unique. we consider these details character, not defects, and do our best to photograph and disclose any significant wear.
why isn’t my vintage rug perfectly straight?
handmade vintage rugs aren’t manufactured by machines, so perfectly straight edges and exact measurements aren’t always part of the deal. slight variations in shape and size are normal and part of their handmade character.
can i put a vintage rug over carpet?
absolutely. layering a vintage rug over carpet can add color, pattern and personality to a room that otherwise feels a little flat. a rug pad designed for carpet can help keep everything in place.
can vintage rugs be used in kitchens and bathrooms?
yes. vintage rugs are some of our favorites for kitchens, bathrooms, entryways and other hardworking spaces. just avoid leaving them consistently wet or damp.
are your rugs washed before they’re sold?
our vintage rugs are professionally cleaned before they arrive at apple & oak, so they’re ready for their next home.
will a vintage rug shed?
vintage rugs generally shed much less than many new wool rugs because they’ve already had years of use. you may still notice some fibers depending on the individual rug, but excessive shedding isn’t typical.
what if i need help choosing one?

can I see a rug in person?
all of our rugs online are available in shop for you to see. we are one 10-7 daily at 2215 riverside Dr in nashville, tennessee.
do you do rug holds?
no, our shop is too small but we do offer 24 hour trials! just come on in and take the ones you are interested in. purchase the ones that work, bring back the ones that don't.
how much is shipping?
surprisingly low! shipping is calculated at checkout based on wight and your location. you can see the price before you commit. we do offer local delivery.
